President:  Jean Reading


Jean Reading recently obtained her M.A. in Applied Psychological Research from Penn State Harrisburg.  Her Master’s thesis was a qualitative examination that explored the use of online weight loss websites as a method to lose weight.  Jean is currently working for Penn State’s College of Medicine as a research project manager for a study that is examining the effectiveness of a conversation game related to living and dying well, with hopes that it will help facilitate the discussion of medical decision making and end of life care among individuals.  She has served as the Vice-president of Penn State Harrisburg’s Applied Psychology Association for Graduate Students and treasurer of PSI CHI at her college.  Jean's research interests encompass a wide range of clinical health psychology issues including comorbidities between diabetes and Alzheimer's disease, psycho-social aspects of diabetes care, how lifestyle and creative expression affects our mental health/physical health, and psycho-social strategies to prevent obesity and chronic illness.  Jean hopes to obtain her Ph.D. in Health Psychology.

Jason completed his bachelors in psychology with a minor in neuroscience at SUNY Albany in 2011. Currently he is working on his thesis for a master's degree in behavioral neuroscience at Queen's College. His current research investigates the game of chess as a potential therapy for cognitive decline in older adults. He is also looking forward to teaching an undergraduate course at Queen's College next Fall. Once he has his degree, Jason plans on pursing a Psy.D in clinical psychology, focusing on marginalized populations such as military veterans.

Sophie Kay is a senior psychology major at The College Of New Jersey, to graduate May 2014. She is lab manager of a cognitive-social laboratory, where she will be conducting an honors thesis on the effects of Regulatory Fit on performance in exercise tasks. Sophie serves as her college's Psi Chi president, Art Student Association president, and Club Ultimate Frisbee fundraising chair. In the future, she hopes to attain a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and research the effects of emotion in the workplace.

Awards Chair:  Robert Anderson

Robert Anderson, is a senior at Washington College in Chestertown Maryland. He is a double major in both Behavioral Neuroscience, and Biology, with a minor in Chemistry. His research interests include animal models of autism spectrum disorder, as well as human models for ADHD and traumatic brain injuries. In the coming academic year, he will be pursuing an honors thesis on the effects epigenetic priming and reconsolidation of memories in PTSD animal models. He is the Treasurer of his local chapter of Health Occupational Students of America, the Secretary of the campus chapter American Chemical Society, the Lead Budget Coordinator and Treasurer of our campus Public Service Council, and an inducted member of Sigma Xi. In the future, he hopes to attend medical school and specialize in either psychiatry or neurology. 

Membership and Volunteer Chair: Christina Colgary

Christina majored in Psychology and minored in Managing Human Capital at Saint Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, PA. She is currently pursing a master’s degree in Experimental Psychology and concentrating in Behavioral Neuroscience at Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ. Her master’s thesis is investigating the effects of stress anticipation during a one-session of mindfulness meditation and guided imagery meditation. Other research interests include prevention treatments for stress and anxiety, the impact of mindfulness on memory, and the implementation of new strategies to help the academic and social adjustment of at-risk middle school youth. Christina is currently working as a Graduate Assistant at Seton Hall University and as Volunteer Research Assistant in the Eating Disorders Program at the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at Overlook Medical Center, Summit, NJ. Upon completion of her master’s degree, Christina hopes to pursue a PhD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.

Sara Berry is a graduate student at Central Connecticut State University. She will be finishing her MA in General Psychology in May 2014, and hopes to go on to a PhD program in Personality or Developmental Psychology. Sara is a Graduate Assistant in the CCSU Department of Psychological Science, as well as a peer tutor and the Secretary and Student-Faculty Relations Liaison of Psi Chi. Sara has presented her research at EPA in 2013 and 2014, and received a Psi Chi Regional Travel Grant to attend EPA this year. One of her major projects for this year has been developing a colloquium series called Research Stories, in which student researchers present their work as well as provide beginning students with advice on how to be successful in conducting research in Psychological Science.
